Alien MixTape № 08: Course set for ‘Saturn’s Return’.

Pack light. We’re bound for ‘Saturn’s Return’, the eighth Alien MixTape and a joyride through the brightest Nordic sounds of 2026.

After a few years out in the cosmic wilderness, the Alien Aesthete is back on the launch pad. And what better way to mark the return than by saluting an artist who spent more than a decade proving the world would come around to her.

In casting about for a theme for this MixTape, I found inspiration from Saturn itself. Astrologers say the planet’s return (not the song), roughly every 29 years, is when you finally cross growth’s threshold and step into your own power. For Zara Larsson, that moment was 2026, when the rest of pop culture finally caught up with her. So consider this a victory lap with a payload of the best kind: bright, effervescent pop from up north and beyond.

Every star has its moment of return. This is the sound of the north arriving in full bloom.

Act I lifts off with Zara Larsson’s Saturn’s Return, a slow-burn breakthrough a decade in the making, before the high priestess of spiritual disco, Agnes, sounds a midnight alarm with WAKE UP. Dagny shows us the Scandinavian Strut, Miss Li pours a heady serving of sonic bourbon, and Valentino Indy drifts into a Balearic moondream. Act II routes us via Vienna and this year’s Eurovision Song Contest, where A*Teens make a comeback that reunites every millennial with their teenage self, Finland sets the stage alight with a literal flamethrower, and Bulgaria’s Bangaranga claims its Eurovision crown with a little help from its Nordic friends (and a few runaway kukeri). Act III begins our descent: Elliot proves that longing has rarely sounded this cheerful, before Sanna Nielsen brings us in to land, with a rousing number whose afterglow shimmers like a horizon on re-entry.

Now streaming on Apple Music, make this Alien MixTape your 2026’s sonic launch sequence.
